Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Marvel vs. Capcom: New Age of Heroes, released in 2000, is a crossover fighting game that features characters from two different timelines and universes. The game has a single gameplay and setting. The game was created by Capcom and is the fourth installment of the Marvel vs. Capcom Series. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 follows directly on from Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 inherited many features from its predecessor, while introducing new and significant changes. The game uses similar tag-team mechanics as its predecessor, but also features a new three-on-three battle gameplay that is more simple to control. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 features a brand-new system of character assistance. The game's visuals have changed dramatically. Instead of 2D backgrounds, the new installments feature 2D characters on a 3D backdrop. There is also a brand-new feature called'snapback.'
Popularity
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was a commercial and critical success in its early years. Originally, it was released exclusively for the Japanese Sega NAOMI platform arcade machines. The game was so popular that it soon appeared on multiple consoles, including Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
GameRankings rated Marvel vs. Capcom 2, a Dreamcast game, at 90%. Metacritic rated the Dreamcast version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 at 90%, as well as Xbox 360 82% and PlayStation 3 85%.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was the focus of nearly every major gaming magazine. Destructoid rated it as a 9/10 on Xbox 360. GameSpot gave it an 8.4/10 rating on Dreamcast. IGN gave it a 9.3/10 rating on Dreamcast. NextGeneration also gave Marvel vs. Capcom 2 an Xbox 360 score of 9/10!
It was a huge success. Now that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is available in its original Arcade format with the Pandora Box Arcade Gold, a new round of ratings will be coming soon!
Gameplay
The game allows players to select a three-member team and compete against another team of three members in a tag-team battle. The game has improved the Variable System to allow players to add other team members during combat. The "Variable Assist", a gameplay mechanic that was previously used, has been re-implemented. Players can now call on a team member off-screen to perform one special move. This can be any of three different types.
As they wait, characters who are not currently in combat and waiting at a distance will gradually regenerate their health bars. If, for example, Team A loses its health bars (life gauges) before the deadline, then it is the winner. The game clock is another factor that can determine the winner. The character with the highest health remains the winner when the timer expires.
There is a meter below the gauges that fills up as each character continues to receive and deal damage in the battle. Once it's filled, the player can perform special moves such as delayed hyper combos and hyper combos.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes implements a variation of this control scheme. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 : New Age of Heroes uses a different control scheme. There are now four attack buttons, and two assist buttons in the six-button scheme.
