About this product
You blow a bubble, an enemy gets stuck inside it, you jump on the bubble and it pops into fruit. That is Bubble Bobble, Taito's 1986 arcade game, and this Pandora Game Console package plays the arcade version with its original music and sound.
Bub and Bob, the two bubble dragons, work through a hundred single-screen rounds. Take too long on one and the game sends a ghost-like hunter after you, and the music speeds up to let you know you are in trouble. It sounds simple, and by the later rounds it is not.
Bubble Bobble is a co-op game at heart. Two players share the screen, help each other out of tight spots and fight over the fruit. Taito also hid the best ending behind playing together, so a single-player clear only shows you part of the story.
That makes it a natural fit for a two-player arcade panel. Both players sit at the same console with their own stick and buttons, which is how it was played in arcades, and the tune you have not heard in thirty years will be stuck in your head again by round ten.
The hardware style menu also offers the Pandora Wireless 2 Joystick Separated Edition, with two sticks on their own.
Bubble Bobble is on the Retro Arcade Games List Archive, the first card in the builder and one of the largest we offer. Its sequels are there too, along with Rainbow Islands, The New Zealand Story, Snow Bros, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Dig Dug, Joust, Burger Time, Tapper and Robotron. The other first-slot choice reads "No Game Card - YOU WONT HAVE ANY GAMES!", and it is not a joke. The console has no software installed, so without a card it has nothing to play.
Two more slots are optional. The second offers 3 and 4 Player Arcade Games, Neo Geo or Mortal Kombat Life. The third offers 3 and 4 Player, Mario Kart Madness & Friends, Neo Geo or Run & Gun. Each also has a No Additional Game Archive option.
Get the Official Sanwa Upgrade? The choices on this page are Default Pandora Platinum Hardware, Upgrade to Sanwa Buttons, Upgrade to Sanwa Joysticks and Upgrade to Sanwa Joysticks & Buttons. Bubble Bobble is not a demanding game on the controls, so the default parts handle it well. If you plan to play fighters or shooters from the other cards, that is where Sanwa pays off.
