About this product
Captain Commando is Capcom's 1991 arcade beat 'em up, and it has one of the strangest lineups of any brawler from that era. This package pairs it with a Pandora Game Console so one to four people can play it at home the way it ran in the arcade.
You pick from four heroes. Captain Commando himself is the straight-laced lead who fires energy blasts from his gloves. Mack the Knife is an alien who looks like a mummy and fights with a pair of blades. Ginzu is a ninja with a sword. Baby Head is a genius infant who rides into battle in a robot suit, and he is the one everybody fights over at the character select. The name started out as a mascot Capcom printed in its game manuals before it ever got a game of its own.
You walk right through a future Metro City and beat up everything that walks left. Enemies drop weapons you can pick up, and some stages park mech suits on the street that you can climb into and pilot until they get wrecked. The bosses are big, loud and very Capcom. It is the kind of game where four friends lose track of who is winning and nobody minds.
The game takes anywhere from one to four players. Out of the box the console handles one or two, and three and four players need added compatible Pandora Game Console joysticks. The video on this page shows a run in progress.
Captain Commando only shows up if you choose a card for it. The first slot offers the 3 and 4 Player Arcade Games Archive Card, Fighting Masters, or "No Game Card - YOU WONT HAVE ANY GAMES!" Captain Commando is on the 3 and 4 Player card, so that is the one to pick. Fighting Masters is a fighting game collection and does not list it.
The 3 and 4 Player card is a good one to own anyway. It carries other four-player brawlers from the same years, including Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Dungeons and Dragons Shadow over Mystara, Battle Circuit, Sunset Riders, X-Men, the Simpsons arcade game and both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games. Click for Game List to see everything on it.
Slot two offers the 3 and 4 Player, Mortal Kombat Life or Mario Kart Madness & Friends cards. Slot three offers Mario Kart Madness & Friends, Mortal Kombat Life, Neo Geo or Retro Arcade.
Hardware styles are the Pandora Dual Panel, the Pandora Single Panel and the Pandora Wireless 2 Joystick Separated Edition. Under Get the Official Sanwa Upgrade? you can keep Default Pandora Platinum Hardware or upgrade the buttons, the joysticks, or both.
