About this product
Gunners Heaven is a 1995 PlayStation run and gun from Media.Vision, the studio that later made Wild Arms. It came out in Japan, reached Europe under the name Rapid Reload, and never got a North American release. That is the reason so few people here have played it, and the reason we wanted it on a card.
If you grew up on Gunstar Heroes you will be at home inside a minute. You run right with the trigger held down while enemies come at you from the floor, the ceiling and the background. The bosses fill half the screen. The sprite animation is much smoother than you would expect from an early PlayStation game, and the pace rarely lets up.
This page sells a Pandora Game Console package, not a disc. Gunners Heaven sits on the Run & Gun Games List Archive Card, where it is listed as Rapid Reload Gunners Heaven for PS1. Put that card in the first slot and the game appears in the menu next to the rest of the card's run and gun lineup, which includes:
Click for Game List on the card to read the rest. Slot one also offers the 3 and 4 Player Arcade Games Archive Card. The last choice in that menu, "No Game Card - YOU WONT HAVE ANY GAMES!", means what it says: the console ships empty without a card.
You get the complete console in the hardware style you pick, with the Pro version of the Pandora Platinum mainboard inside, plus an HDMI cable, a power AC cable and a spare set of arcade buttons. The style menu has three entries: Pandora Dual Panel, Pandora Single Panel, and the Pandora Wireless 2 Joystick Separated Edition for people who want their own stick on the couch.
On the PlayStation you played Gunners Heaven with a pad. A lever is better for it. Holding a direction while you fire is easier with your palm on a ball top than with a thumb on a D-pad, and slipping between bullets gets more precise. If you want the lever and buttons from Japanese arcade cabinets, answer yes to "Get the Official Sanwa Upgrade?" and choose the buttons, the joysticks or both. Otherwise keep Default Pandora Platinum Hardware.
There is a gameplay video higher up this page if you want to watch a boss fight before you decide.
Slot two adds the 3 and 4 Player Arcade Games Archive, Mario Kart Madness & Friends or Mortal Kombat Life Retro. The "Go ALL Out & Add a 3rd Game Archive Card!" slot offers 3 and 4 Player, Mario Kart Madness & Friends or the Retro Arcade Games List Archive. Either slot can stay at No Additional Game Archive. The cards plug into the back of the Pandora Game Console, so you can add more later.
