About this product
Metal Slug 6 came out in 2006 on Sammy's Atomiswave arcade board, and it is the version this Pandora Game Console package is built around. SNK Playmore kept the hand-drawn soldiers who scream and flail and the tanks you can climb into, and the screen still shakes every time something big goes up.
It also changed a few things. Ralf and Clark from King of Fighters join Marco, Tarma, Eri and Fio, and each character plays a little differently. You can carry two weapons at once and swap between them, which matters more than it sounds when a boss shows up and you are holding a flame shot you were saving.
The package is a complete home arcade console, not a cartridge or a disc, with Metal Slug 6 support through the Run & Gun Games List Archive Card, the only game card offered in the first slot here. The box holds:
The hardware menu adds a third style, the Pandora Wireless 2 Joystick Separated Edition, if you want two separate sticks instead of one shared panel. If you set the card menu to "No Game Card - YOU WONT HAVE ANY GAMES!", that is exactly what happens, so leave the Run & Gun card selected.
Metal Slug 6 is one entry on a card that also carries Metal Slug 1 to 5 and Metal Slug X, so you can play the whole series from the same menu. Contra in its arcade and NES versions, Super Contra, Contra 3 Alien Wars, Alien Soldier, Mega Man X, Midnight Resistance and Rapid Reload Gunners Heaven are on it too. Click for Game List on the card to see the full lineup.
Metal Slug has always been a co-op series, and on the Dual Panel or Single Panel both players stand side by side with their own lever and buttons, the way the cabinets were set up. Jump, shoot and grenade sit on the buttons right where your fingers expect them.
The "Get the Official Sanwa Upgrade?" option is worth a look for this one. Metal Slug asks for quick direction changes while you shoot, and a Sanwa lever moves with less effort than the standard stick. The page lets you upgrade the buttons, the joysticks or both, or stay on Default Pandora Platinum Hardware.
Slot two can take the 3 and 4 Player Arcade Games Archive, Mario Kart Madness & Friends or Mortal Kombat Life Retro. The third slot has the longest menu on the page: 3 and 4 Player, 3D Fighting, Mario Kart Madness & Friends, Mortal Kombat Life Retro, Retro Arcade and Neo Geo Arcade. The Neo Geo card is a natural partner, since Metal Slug started life on Neo Geo hardware. You can watch the game running on the Pandora Game Console in the video on this page.
