About this product
Mortal Kombat 2 Plus is a modified build of the 1993 Midway arcade game that never had an official release. It keeps the arcade original you remember and adds custom stage upgrades and hidden characters you can actually pick. On the Pandora Game Console it runs as bonus support on the Mortal Kombat Life Retro Archive Card, where the game list calls it Mortal Kombat 2 + Plus (Unreleased).
If you spent the early 90s feeding quarters into MK2, you know why people still argue it is the best one. Ed Boon and John Tobias's team added Friendships and Babalities, gave Kung Lao his hat and Kitana her fans, and made the whole game faster than the first. The Plus version is for players who have seen all of that and want a few surprises left in it.
This page sells a complete console package, and the Mortal Kombat Life Retro Archive Card is the game card offered in slot one. The Plus hack is one bonus entry on a card built around the whole series:
Click for Game List on the card to see every version before you order. Skip the card and the menu warns you plainly: "No Game Card - YOU WONT HAVE ANY GAMES!"
The console comes in the hardware style you select: Pandora Single Panel, Pandora Dual Panel, or the Pandora Wireless 2 Joystick Separated Edition. Inside is the Pro version of the Pandora Platinum mainboard. You also get an HDMI cable, a power AC cable and an extra set of arcade buttons, so you have spares when a button finally wears out after a few thousand uppercuts.
Mortal Kombat was made for a lever and five buttons: high punch, low punch, high kick, low kick and block. Fatality inputs are quick back and forward taps, and they come out far more reliably on an arcade stick than on a pad. If you want the lever and buttons from Japanese arcade cabinets, the "Get the Official Sanwa Upgrade?" choice lets you upgrade the buttons, the joysticks or both. Default Pandora Platinum Hardware is the other option, and it holds up fine for friends who just want to play.
There are three gameplay videos on this page if you want to see the Plus version running before you decide.
The Pandora Game Console takes up to three cards. The second slot here offers 3 and 4 Player, Mario Kart Madness & Friends, Run & Gun, Neo Geo Arcade, Retro Arcade and 3D Fighting. The third offers most of the same list apart from Run & Gun. Either can be left at No Additional Game Archive.
