About this product
Mortal Kombat Trilogy was Midway's answer to every argument about which MK roster was best: put almost all of them in one game. It came out in 1996 for the PlayStation and the Nintendo 64, and it pulls fighters from Mortal Kombat 1, Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat 3 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 into one select screen.
It was a home console game, so most of us played it hunched over a controller. That always felt a little wrong for a series born in the arcade. On a Pandora Game Console you finally get to play it the way the earlier games were played, standing at a panel with a real lever.
Want to play classic Raiden against UMK3 Sektor? You can. Trilogy brought back the characters MK3 had cut, like Johnny Cage, Raiden and Baraka, and threw in the hidden fighters and bosses fans used to trade codes for on the playground. Trilogy also added the Aggressor bar, which speeds you up and hits harder once it fills, and Brutalities on top of the usual Fatalities.
If you have strong opinions about which game had the best Scorpion, this is where you settle them.
This package is a Pandora Game Console with the Platinum Pro mainboard. Both versions of Mortal Kombat Trilogy, the PS1 version and the N64 version, play on the Pro board. The game comes on an archive card, and this page sets you up with the Mortal Kombat Life Retro Archive Card, which also carries the arcade versions of MK1, MK2, MK3 and UMK3 and the Super Nintendo and Genesis ports. You do need to add the archive for the game to be there. Choosing "No Game Card" leaves you with a console and nothing to play.
Pick from the Pandora Single Panel, the Pandora Dual Panel or the Pandora Wireless 2 Joystick Separated Edition. Mortal Kombat is a two-player game at heart, and the Dual Panel or the separated sticks give each player their own space.
On controls, the stock Default Pandora Platinum Hardware works fine for MK, which was always more about timing than tricky motions. If you want the parts that are in Japanese cabinets, answer "Get the Official Sanwa Upgrade?" with Sanwa buttons, joysticks, or both. You can also stack a second and third archive card: the 3 and 4 Player Arcade Games Archive, the 3D Fighting Game Archive Card (it has MK4), the Neo Geo Arcade Games List Archive and the Retro Arcade Games List Archive are on the list. There are two gameplay videos on this page if you want to see it running first.
