NFL Greatest Video Games Archive 1 Pandora Game Console

Football from the NES to the Dreamcast

NFL Greatest Video Games Archive 1 is a football card. It holds licensed NFL games and a few that never had the license, from 8-bit cartridges up to the Dreamcast, and it runs on a Pandora Game Console with the Pandora Platinum Pro board inside.

Football games aged in an odd way. The simple ones, with a handful of plays and a running back made of big pixels, are often more fun today than the serious simulations that came after them. This card has both kinds, so you can settle that argument yourself.

NFL Blitz, in most of its forms

Midway's NFL Blitz takes up a big part of the list. There is the N64 Edition, a Special Edition, NFL Blitz 2000 and NFL Blitz 2001 in both Dreamcast and N64 editions, a 2 player version, and the NFL Blitz 2023 Gold Edition and NFL Blitz 2024. Blitz is seven on seven, late hits are part of the game, and a first down takes thirty yards. It is the closest thing football has to NBA Jam, which makes sense, since Midway made both.

Tecmo, Madden and the rest of the roster

Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES is the other big draw. It was one of the first football games with real NFL teams and real players on them, and people still argue about how fast Bo Jackson is in it. The card also carries the Tecmo Super Bowl arcade edition and the two Super Nintendo follow-ups, Tecmo Super Bowl 2 and Tecmo Super Bowl 3 Final Edition.

After that it gets more varied:

• Madden 92 and Madden 93
• Mutant League Football, where the players are monsters and the field has land mines
• 10 Yard Fight on the NES
• Capcom's MVP Football on the Super Nintendo
• Cyberball, football played by robots
• Football Frenzy on the Neo Geo
• Pigskin Footbrawl, a medieval brawl that only loosely counts as football

On the couch with a second player

Most of these games are at their best head to head. Older football games used two or three buttons, so nobody needs a tutorial. One player picks a play and the other tries to guess it. Whoever loses asks for a rematch. On the Pandora Game Console panel, each player gets a stick and buttons, which suits the arcade-style games like Blitz and Football Frenzy especially well.

Adding the card

Choose NFL Greatest Video Games Archive 1 in any of the three card slots when you build your console. It goes in the back with your other cards and can be swapped out later.

The card needs a Pandora Platinum Pro console. It does not work with other Pandora Platinum versions or with consoles running a non Pandora Platinum mainboard.
