Renewed PS4 Controller Pad for Pandora Game Console

A modern pad for the games that need one

The Renewed PS4 Controller Pad is a Sony DualShock 4 that works wired over USB with the Pandora Game Console Platinum. We wanted the console to handle modern controllers as well as arcade sticks, and this is the pad we use for that.

An arcade console needs a PlayStation pad because the Pandora Game Console plays a lot more than arcade games, and some of those games were never meant for a lever and six buttons.

When the arcade stick runs out of buttons

A PlayStation game might expect two analog sticks, four shoulder buttons and a d-pad all at once. A PSP game leans on its analog nub and shoulder buttons. Dreamcast games use analog triggers. An arcade panel cannot cover all of that, and for some games you need a controller like this one before they play properly at all. The panel was built for arcade games, and it is very good at them.

The PS4 pad fills in for:

• Dreamcast games
• PSP games
• Retro arcade games, if you would rather sit back with a pad
• Anything else your Pandora Game Console has archived

Hooking it up

Plug the controller into the console with a USB cable and it works as any player on the console, so it can be player one for a PSP racer or the extra hands in a co-op game. In the Pandora Platinum settings you can tell the console to use the PS4 controller for whatever game you are playing, and leave the panel set up for the next arcade session. One small extra: the controller's headset port works too, so you can plug in headphones and listen to the game through the pad while everyone else in the house sleeps.

What renewed means here

These are renewed controllers, not new in the box. They come in whatever color we have, so the one you get may be picked at random. Renewed also means they have been used before and brought back to working condition, so expect a pad that works rather than one still wrapped in plastic.

Limits of emulation

This is emulation, and emulation has quirks. We tested PS4 controller performance on the Pandora Platinum to a level we are happy with, but these controllers are not guaranteed to work with every game, and we cannot troubleshoot how they behave in every game ever made. If a particular title does not respond the way you expect, try remapping it in the settings, or switch back to the arcade panel for that one.
