Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Pandora Game Console

Michael Buffer in your living room

Ready 2 Rumble Boxing was Midway's cartoon boxing game for the Sega Dreamcast in 1999, and this Pandora Game Console package plays that Dreamcast version. The ring announcer is the real Michael Buffer, and yes, he says the line before every fight.

It is arcade boxing, not a simulation. The fighters are caricatures, the punches are huge, and a match between two friends gets loud fast. Kids pick it up in a minute, and adults keep playing because landing a clean combo on someone sitting next to you never stops being funny.

How a fight plays

You throw high and low punches with the buttons, block and lean with the stick, and build up your rumble meter by landing hits and taunting. Fill it and the letters R-U-M-B-L-E light up. Trigger it and your boxer goes into Rumble mode, where a flurry of punches can end the round. The roster is the part people remember: Afro Thunder, Boris Knokimov, Selene Strike, Butcher Brown and the rest, each with their own walk-in and their own trash talk.

The Championship mode lets you take one boxer up the rankings and train them between fights. Arcade mode is the one you will play with friends.

Dreamcast games and the Pro board

Dreamcast games ask more of the hardware than the older cartridge games do. This package comes with the Pandora Platinum Pro board, the Pandora Game Console board that plays Ready 2 Rumble from the Dreamcast. The arcade sticks take the place of the Dreamcast pad, and the game runs on your TV over HDMI.

What comes in the package

• Complete home console, in Single or Separated Panels (you choose the version)
• Power AC cable
• HDMI cable
• Extra set of arcade buttons
• Pro version of the Pandora Box Platinum board
• Ready 2 Rumble Dreamcast game compatibility

The style choices on the page are Pandora Single Panel, Pandora Dual Panel and the Pandora Wireless 2 Joystick Separated Edition. With the wireless edition, each boxer holds a separate stick instead of sharing one panel.

Archive cards for this build

The game itself is on the Best Arcade Sports Games Archive, which also has Ready 2 Rumble Round 2, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, NFL Blitz 2000 and 2001, NHL Open Ice, Virtua Tennis 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Windjammers and NBA Hangtime. Click for Game List for everything on it. Choosing "No Game Card - YOU WONT HAVE ANY GAMES!" leaves you with an empty console.

The third slot offers 3 and 4 Player Arcade Games, Neo Geo or Street Fighter Masters. Either slot can stay on No Additional Game Archive. The videos on this page show the game in action.
