About this product
Before the long-running series and the tournament circuit, there was the original Guilty Gear, a strange and very loud PlayStation fighter from 1998. This listing is a Pandora Game Console Platinum Pro package that plays it, in either the Single Panel or the Dual Panel console.
Arc System Works made it, with Daisuke Ishiwatari designing the characters and writing a heavy metal soundtrack that still gets played on its own. It had big hand-drawn sprites and a fantasy world full of guitars and swords, and it played faster than Street Fighter, with more rushing in and less patient footsies.
A lot of what the later games are known for started here. Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske are already rivals. May swings her anchor, Millia fights with her hair, Potemkin grabs, Chipp runs at you, Axl swings his chain sickles from across the screen, and Zato fights alongside his shadow. Then there are instant kills, the moves that end a round on the spot if they land, which nobody has ever been calm about.
It is rougher than the sequels, and some of the balance is wild, which is half the fun with a friend on the other stick. On an arcade stick with four attack buttons in a row, the dashes and air moves feel right in a way the PS1 pad never quite managed. The arcade-style picture and sound come through well on the Pro board.
The hardware menu also lists the Pandora Wireless 2 Joystick Separated Edition if you want two cordless sticks instead of a panel.
Games come on archive cards. The first slot on this page is the Fighting Masters Archive Card, which is mostly Capcom and SNK: Street Fighter Alpha 3, Darkstalkers 3, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Samurai Shodown, King of Fighters and Garou Mark of the Wolves among them. Use Click for Game List to see every title on it before you order. Choosing "No Game Card - YOU WONT HAVE ANY GAMES!" leaves the console with nothing to play.
The second slot offers the 3 and 4 Player Arcade Games Archive, the Mortal Kombat Life Retro Archive Card and the Neo Geo Arcade Games List Archive. The third adds the 3D Fighting Game Archive Card and Mario Kart Madness & Friends.
Get the Official Sanwa Upgrade? gives you Sanwa buttons, Sanwa joysticks or both, or you can keep the Default Pandora Platinum Hardware. For a game this fast, the lighter Sanwa buttons are the upgrade we would pick first.
There is a gameplay video on this page. Guilty Gear is fully supported on the Pandora Game Console Platinum Pro.
