About this product
A blue shell on the last lap of Rainbow Road is still the fastest way to end a friendship, and Mario Kart 64 is where a lot of us learned that. This page sells a Pandora Game Console package built around it: the Platinum Pro console plus the archive card that carries the game.
Nintendo released Mario Kart 64 in 1996 in Japan, and it reached the rest of the world the next year. It took the flat tracks of Super Mario Kart and gave them hills, jumps and bridges. Wario Stadium, Koopa Troopa Beach, Bowser's Castle and Toad's Turnpike are all here, along with the balloon battle mode that ate whole weekends. You race as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Wario or Bowser.
On the console you drive with an arcade stick and hop or drift with arcade buttons. It feels different from the N64 thumb stick. Steering comes in taps and holds instead of a slow sweep, and powersliding through a hairpin starts to feel like an arcade racer. Give it a cup or two before you decide whether you miss the old controller.
If you want the original layout back, or more than two drivers, we also sell an N64 Controller Pad for the Pandora Game Console. With those pads up to four players can race at once on split screen.
For hardware you can pick the Pandora Single Panel, the Pandora Dual Panel or the Pandora Wireless 2 Joystick Separated Edition. Under Get the Official Sanwa Upgrade? the choices are Default Pandora Platinum Hardware, Sanwa buttons, Sanwa joysticks, or both together.
Your first card slot is the Mario Kart Madness & Friends Archive Card. Racing is the theme. Besides Mario Kart 64 you get Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Diddy Kong Racing, Crash Team Racing, Wave Race, Cruisin USA, Crazy Taxi, Outrun and the PS1 Need for Speed games, plus Super Mario 64 and the original Super Mario Bros trilogy for when someone needs a break from losing. Click for Game List shows the whole lineup.
Slots two and three are optional. You can add the 3 and 4 Player Arcade Games Archive, the Mortal Kombat Life Retro Archive Card, the Neo Geo Arcade Games List Archive or, in the third slot, the Retro Arcade Games List Archive. Skip the first card entirely and you get the warning on the menu: "No Game Card - YOU WONT HAVE ANY GAMES!"
Mario Kart 64 is only compatible with the Pandora Game Console Platinum Pro version board, so it will not run on older Platinum consoles.
