Sega Genesis 16 Bit Generations Pandora Game Console

Genesis games without the cartridge worries

Sega Genesis 16 Bit Generations is the archive card for people who grew up on the other side of the console war. The Genesis came to the US in 1989 (the rest of the world knew it as the Mega Drive), and it won a lot of fans by being a little faster and a lot louder than Nintendo.

The Pandora Platinum board can play 40 years of game consoles, and the Genesis is one of the fan favorites. This card brings that library to the Pandora Game Console in full HD, so worn-out cartridges and a blurry picture on a big TV stop being your problem.

Why the Genesis still matters to people

Sonic the Hedgehog is the obvious place to start. Sega built the blue hedgehog to sell the console on speed, and the first game is still a pleasure to run through at full speed. Then there is Streets of Rage, which plays like the arcade brawlers of its day and has one of the best soundtracks of the 16-bit era. Yuzo Koshiro wrote club music for a Sega sound chip, and it still sounds great.

Those two are just where most people start. The Genesis had a deep catalog of arcade ports, beat 'em ups, shooters and sports games, and this card draws from that catalog. To see exactly what is on it, use Click for Game List on this page.

Joystick or pad, your call

A lot of Genesis games came from the arcade or were built to feel like they did, and they sit naturally on a stick. Brawlers and shooters especially. If you would rather hold a pad for the platformers, attach a controller pad to the console and play that way instead. The card does not care which you use.

There are three videos on this page showing Genesis games running on the console, so you can judge the picture for yourself before you buy.

Adding the card

Choose Sega Genesis 16 Bit Generations as one of the archive cards when you configure your Pandora Game Console. It plugs in and the games appear in the menu alongside anything else you have added.

Which consoles take this card

This card is made for Pandora Platinum Pro consoles. It is not compatible with earlier Pandora Platinum models or with consoles built on a mainboard that is not a Pandora Platinum board.
