About this product
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is the last and best version of Capcom's third Street Fighter, released in arcades in 1999, and this Pandora Game Console package plays the arcade version. We would call it the best 2D fighter Capcom ever made.
What sets it apart is the parry. Tap forward at the instant a hit lands and you take no damage, then you get to hit back. It is the move behind the most replayed clip in fighting game history, the 2004 tournament match where Daigo parried every hit of Chun-Li's super with almost no health left and won the round. Fans call it Evo Moment 37.
Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Akuma are there for the old crowd. Most of the cast is new to this series, though: Makoto with her karate, Dudley the gentleman boxer, the twins Yun and Yang, Hugo, Q, Twelve, Remy, Urien, Ibuki and the rest, with Gill waiting at the end. The sprite animation still looks better than many fighters made years later.
3rd Strike is played with three punches and three kicks, and parrying is a timing skill that lives on the lever. On a gamepad you can get by. On arcade parts you feel the window, which is the whole game at a high level.
If any game on the site justifies Sanwa parts, it is this one. Sanwa makes the joysticks and buttons in Japanese arcade cabinets, and Japan is where 3rd Strike was played hardest. The page offers Default Pandora Platinum Hardware, Upgrade to Sanwa Buttons, Upgrade to Sanwa Joysticks, or Upgrade to Sanwa Joysticks & Buttons.
You choose the Single Panel, the Dual Panel or the Pandora Wireless 2 Joystick Separated Edition. Every console comes with all the hookups and an extra set of buttons.
3rd Strike is on the Fighting Masters Archive Card, the first card in the builder. That card also holds Street Fighter 2 from the original to Super Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 1 to 3, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Capcom vs SNK 2, X-Men vs Street Fighter, King of Fighters 98, Garou Mark of the Wolves and Darkstalkers, so the Pandora Game Console arrives as a full fighting game library rather than a single game. Click for Game List for the full set. Skip the card with "No Game Card - YOU WONT HAVE ANY GAMES!" only if you already own one.
Two more slots are optional. The second offers Mortal Kombat Life Retro, 3D Fighting or Neo Geo. The third offers 3 and 4 Player Arcade Games, Retro Arcade, 3D Fighting or Run & Gun. Each slot can be left on No Additional Game Archive. The videos on this page show 3rd Strike running on the console.
